Music at Mayfield
We love to celebrate music at Mayfield!
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy music at Mayfield, both within the curriculum and as additional activities.
Mrs Gordon, our Music Co-ordinator, leads whole class music lessons which include the three fundamentals of music; listening and appraising, performing and composing. In whole class lessons the children explore these fundamentals of music through singing, and playing both tuned and untuned percussion. Children begin to learn to read western classical musical notation in year 3 during their first recorder unit and build upon this throughout their time in KS2.
Being able to read musical notation is a wonderful skill, and can be transferred to any instrument if your child wishes to move on and learn another instrument outside of the classroom.
We offer additional music lessons to children in KS2 in the following instruments:
If you are interested in your child having a musical instrument lesson at school, please contact the school office on firstname.lastname@example.org
We love to celebrate the success of our students and we therefore put on regular 'Music Showcases' where children who are learning an instrument in school can perform in an assembly.
There are many opportunities for performance with the Mayfield School Choir throughout the school year. We perform both in school at assemblies and as part of borough wide concerts with Ealing Schools Music Association (ESMA). Each Christmas we take part in the ESMA concert at St.Barnabus Church in Pitshanger Lane, along with other schools from Ealing. This year we also sang to the residents at our local care home, Maryville.
We practise on Friday mornings (8.00-8.45) in The Studio with Mrs Gordon.
New members can join the choir at the beginning of the autumn and spring terms.
See Mrs Gordon if you would like to get involved.
